The proposed 14-acre resort at 1850 Bahama Ave includes six five-story buildings, two restaurants, and several pools.
The Lake Havasu City Planning and Zoning Commission recommended denying requests to change the zoning from high-density residential to resort-related mainland and to rezone the site for planned development. Key concerns included traffic, water, parking, noise, and light issues.
Despite two traffic studies indicating minimal impact, commissioners remained skeptical, especially about the Bahama Avenue and Lake Havasu Avenue intersection. They believe developers should fund necessary traffic upgrades.
Developer Cole Cannon expressed a preference for affordable housing if the resort is denied, citing the city’s housing shortage.
The City Council will vote on this matter on Aug. 13.
